We've all been to Acadia and Portland and all the well known sailing spots up in Maine.  We here at Captain Ace have even recommended Acadia and Portland as great places to go sailing in New England, but what if you are looking for something a little more remote?  Or a place your sailing buddies haven't already been to?  Everyone loves going somewhere new, so we decide to put together a list for those looking for some off the grid sailing spots in Maine.

1.) Damariscotta:

Sitting peacefully on the tidal Damariscotta Rive, Damariscotta is definitely a place your buddy who brags about going everywhere has never been.  Located in Lincoln County, with a population of only 2,000.  Damariscotta forms the "Twin Villages" along with Newcastle, which are linked together by the Main Street Bridge.  Do not expect open ocean sailing in Damariscotta, as it sits on a rive, not a harbor.   Damariscotta is a great getaway for families looking for a nice relaxing sailing trip or a couple looking to get in touch with nature and away from the city.

2.) Bull Hill Maine:

Located just north of Belfast, expect a far trip if you are coming from anywhere not in Maine.   Bull Hill makes our list of off the grid sailing spots in Maine for its rich history.  Settled in 1762 by Captain Joseph Wood and John Roundy of Andover MA, Bill Hill was one of six townships granted by the Massachusetts General Court for their Service in the French and Indian War.  These six townships would ultimately be the first towns in what is now the state of Maine.  Expect light sailing in Bull Hill with islands to explore around every corner.

3.) Cutler Maine:

With no gift shops or tourist traps, Cutler Maine really is for those who have seen it all.  Cutler is about as far North as possible so make sure you have your passport on you in case you cross into international waters.  With a town of only 500 residents, Cutler is a great spot for those who are looking for some solitude.
